Here's what's inside emergency go bags of different LGUs
In the past two weeks, powerful earthquakes jolted Cebu, Baguio, Davao and Surigao del Sur—this has raised pressing questions about readiness as disaster can strike at any moment. Disaster can strike at any moment.
This is why an emergency go bag is an essential to have at home, so Filipinos are prepared for anything, whether it's floods or earthquakes.
Local government units have rolled out emergency go bags: pre-packed kits containing essential supplies that they can quickly grab during sudden evacuations. These are designed to support individuals and families through the critical first hours or days after a disaster.
Here's a look at the different emergency go bags distributed by LGUs.
Manila
Manila City's emergency go bag, a bright yellow water-resistant pack, contains 15 sheer bandages that are 3/4 inches x 3 inches in size, another 10 sheer bandages that are 1 inch x 3 inches in size, and five more sheer bandages.
They also have eight sterilie gauze pads, six alcohol wipes, six electrolyte tablets, five butterfly closures, three antiseptic towelettes, two antibiotic ointments, two muscle gels, two burn creams, a paper tape, an instant cold compress, a forehead thermometer, and eyewash.
For protection, it has an all purpose poncho and an emergency thermal blanket and sleeping bag. There are also three emergency water bags and two food bars.
Other items in the bag include an ID card holder, a 13-in-1 multifunctional tool, a rope, a mini pen, a foam splint pad, a power charger, three brightsticks, a whistle, a solar radio, and a hand crank flashlight.
Quezon City
Quezon City's waterproof go bag holds five raincoats, a ziplock bag, a box of 10 energy bars, one insulated tumbler, one stainless steel mug and spork, and one solar-powered radio with LED light.
It also has an emergency whistle with lanyard, a multifunctional five-in-one scissor, disaster leaflet, a ref magnet for emergency hotline, and five magic towels.
Its first aid kit has Povidone-iodine, alcohol, antiseptic bandage, gauze pad, cotton balls, white triangular bandage, five pairs of surgical gloves, four packs of face masks, five thermal blankets, and one hot and cold compress bag.
In its July video, Aksyon QC said that it is prioritizing the distribution of the go bags to those in hazard-prone areas.
Pasig City
Pasig City's blue go bag contains a glow stick, a flashlight, a whistle, a thermal blanket, a ziplock bag, heavy duty scissors, triangular bandage, a sticker, a magnet, and a family disaster preparedness booklet
Its first aid kit meanwhile has some sterile gauze, a medical tape, Povidone-iodine, alcohol pads, cotton balls, adhesive antiseptic strip, and an elastic bandage.
Makati City
Makati City's yellow go bag contains five moist towelettes, two SOS water pouches, two 12-hour light sticks, one food bar, one thermal blanket, one N95 Respirator Mask, one ID card holder with lanyard and an emergency card.
The supplies are touted to last for three days while survivors are waiting for rescuers to arrive.
On Oct. 13, the Makati City Government said that emergency go bags were distributed to vulnerable families.
Taguig City
Taguig City has also prepared a red go bag complete with emergency gear such as a flashlight, a lighter, a whistle, a pocket knife, tissue papers, a portable AM radio, power banks, and extra batteries.
Its first aid kit holds face masks, band-aids, alcohol, gloves, bandages, betadine, paracetamol, and personal and maintenance medications. For food, it has biscuits, crackers, canned goods, cup noodles, and bottled water.
The bag also has a hygiene kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, soap, shampoo, and hand sanitizer. There's also some clothes, blankets, and jackets.
