Kelly Clarkson claims she was snubbed by store like in 'Pretty Woman'
Kelly Clarkson has shared an unpleasant shopping experience that appeared to come straight out of the romantic comedy film Pretty Woman.
The singer-songwriter took to X to reveal that she recently went to a store in New York City that caught her eye, but was met with an unwelcoming attitude from one of the staff members.
"Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me," she said.
"Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale. But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts' character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out," she added.
To recall, the scene in Pretty Woman that Clarkson referenced depicted Roberts' character Vivian Ward, who is a prostitute, dismissed by sales associates at a luxury store on Rodeo Drive because of her appearance.
Later in the film, Vivian returns to the store dressed in a more upscale outfit and carrying several shopping bags, telling the sales associates they made a big mistake by refusing to help her. The moment has since become one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
Art of Play has yet to make a statement following Clarkson's complaint, but a quick look at its Facebook page showed the singer's supporters leaving comments about the incident. The comments section on their Instagram account has also been made private.
Clarkson rose to fame after winning the first season of American Idol. She went on to build a successful music career, releasing hit songs such as Since U Been Gone, Because of You, and Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You).
She also became a familiar face on television as the host of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
