Carlos Yulo on whether he'll invite parents to wedding with Chloe San Jose: 'Mas pipiliin kong kami na lang'
Carlos Yulo admitted that he would rather not invite his parents to his future wedding with his longtime partner Chloe San Jose.
In an interview with Karen Davila, the two-time Olympic gold medalist said that he prefers to keep the moment private between him and his partner, even if that means not having his parents there.
"Mas pipiliin kong kami na lang. Ayoko din masira 'yung moment na para sa amin dapat dalawa," he explained.
"Ayoko 'yung mamantsyahan pa. Madami na silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na, and hanggang doon na lang din po. Gusto ko sa amin lang po 'yun. I really wanted to be really full of love and joy kapag nangyari po 'yun," he added.
San Jose shared that she respects Yulo's decision.
"I think what he's comfortable with would be what I'm comfortable with," she said. "That wedding day, it will really be about us. Whatever the outside people [or] the guests do, I think we would really have our eyes locked [on] each other."
"So, with or without them, we would have our eyes locked [on] each other, so it wouldn't bother me as much," she added.
The two didn't clarify whether they were engaged, but Yulo admitted to previously attempting to pop the question. The couple added that getting married is something they have conversations about.
Yulo's decision comes amid his long-running rift with his family, which became public during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The conflict between him and his mother, Angelica, involved disagreements over finances and his relationship with San Jose.
In a previous Fast Talk with Boy Abunda interview, the gymnast shared that he has since forgiven his mother and no longer holds any resentment towards her.
"Walang kahit anong galit, sama ng loob, pagtatampo, wala 'kong nararamdamang ganun," he said in March.
"Ngayon, kung tatanungin ako ni Lord na 'gusto mo ba silang makasama?' Wala naman pong problema. Ako, tinry ko 'yung best ko na kausapin sila, mapag-ayos ang lahat. Pero hindi ko po hawak 'yung sagot na 'yun."
