Here's how much Alex Eala earned from the Jingshan Tennis Open semifinals
Filipino tennis star Alex Eala ended her Jingshan Tennis Open run on Saturday, Sept. 27, when she lost to New Zealander Lulu Sun in the semifinals, scoring 3–6, 6–4, 6–2. Sun eventually emerged as champion.
Eala, 20, has had a full season of semis so far. In March at the Miami Open semifinals, she beat world No. 5 Madison Keys of the US. Eala then barged into the WTA 250 Lexus Eastbourne Open semifinals in June, beating world No. 42 Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine. Earlier this month, Eala jumped to a fresh world No. 61 ranking after winning the Guadalajara 125 Open.
After bowing out of the Jingshan Tennis Open in Hubei, China, Eala received 49 ranking points, as well as US$7,960 (around P462,000) in prize money.
Following the Jingshan Tennis Open, Eala is slated to compete next at the Suzhou Open WTA 125 on Monday, Sept. 29. She joins the tournament as the fourth seed, where US players Sun and Katie Volynets, whom Eala previously beat in the opening round of the Miami Open, are also in the draw.
Eala’s Suzhou 125 Open run begins with a match against Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa in the Round of 32. The schedule is yet to be shared.
Over the past few months, Eala has earned historic victories against more accomplished players, as well as Grand Slam winners Jenna Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiatek. These wins have propelled Eala to become the first Filipino to make it to the top 100 of the Women’s Tennis Association rankings. According to WTA Tennis statistics, Eala currently holds the world No. 58 ranking.
Aside from the prestige, Eala has taken home impressive earnings from her wins. According to the WTA website, Eala has earned a total of US$876,077 (around P50,868,534.93) in tournaments—singles and doubles.
In total, Eala has received US$1,331,985 (around P76 million) from her achievements, so far.
