Pokemon-themed airport to open in Japan this July
Pokémon craze has always been alive—from collectibles and trading cards, to amusement parks, and even themed planes.
But soon, fans might want to start planning their next Japan trip now as the country is set to open a Pokémon-themed airport this July.
In an announcement on the Pokémon With You Foundation website, the Noto Satoyama Airport in the Ishikawa Prefecture is preparing to rebrand itself as "Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport." With this, they are set to become the world's first airport to bear the name of Pokémon.
The airport's two-story atrium in the second floor will feature a large Pikachu riding an airplane balloon float. Fittingly, the walls will be decorated by artworks of all 111 Flying-type Pokémon soaring through the sky, including Dragonite, Flygon, Vivillon, Togekiss, and more.
In the first floor arrival lobby, travelers will be greeted by a stunning artwork reminiscent of Noto's rich natural beauty. Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun await visitors as three-dimensional monuments.
Pikachu lovers can meanwhile head to the observation deck where they will be met by dozens of artworks depicting the iconic electtic mouse in various poses.
For the airport's exterior, the pillars at the entrance are each lined with different kinds of Pokémon, such as Jigglypuff, Celebu, Milotic, and more. In addition, you can also enjoy Pokémon decorations in various locations like information signs and boarding bridges connecting the airport to the airplanes.
But admiring the design isn't the only thing visitors can look forward to.
Inside, you can enjoy three original short videos using your smartphone. One of them, called "Fly! Bagon," tells the story of a Bagon that longs to reach the sky, while the other two stories are also original tales that will make your trip more enjoyable.
The airport's food offerings have also gotten a Pokémon makeover. At Restaurant Annon on the third floor, you can indulge in Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks.
If you want to bring home some souvenirs, the Serendipity shop on the second floor will be selling original merchandise featuring the airport's logo and other artworks. Apart from t-shirts and keychains, the lineup also includes luggage tags, suitcase belts, among others.
The new Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport is scheduled to open on July 7 later this year and will be open until Sept. 30, 2029.
