WATCH: Get a first look at live-action 'Moana' in first official trailer
Your favorite island girlie is back... in live-action form!
Disney launched the first trailer for the live-action remake of beloved animated film Moana on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
In the one-minute teaser, we get a closer look at Moana as she's seen walking on a rock island and singing a new rendition of Oscar-winning track How Far I'll Go.
We eventually get a glimpse of the sentient Ocean, the spirited people of Motonui, the cute yet menacing tribe of Kakamora, and the backside of a fish-hook-wielding deity shapeshifting into a soaring hawk.
The new live-action actress is then seen singing her iconic line, "I am Moana!"
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reprises his role from the 2016 animated film, while the new Moana is played by newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia. The film also stars John Tui as Moana’s father Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
Moana follows the story of a young girl who embarks on an adventure outside her cherished island. With the help of strange creatures and powerful demigod Maui, she answers the call of the ocean to save her people against all odds.
The live-action feature is the earliest adaptation of a Disney classic, as the first Moana movie was released 10 years earlier. It also follows an animated sequel released in 2024.
The film is directed by Emmy and Tony-winning theater director Thomas Kail; produced by Dwayne Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and executive produced by Thomas Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Moana voice actress Auli'i Cravalho.
The reimagined film is coming to theaters on July 10, 2026.
