89-year-old woman climbs down from 27th floor to 21st to escape building fire in China
A fearless grandmother aged 89 went viral for climbing down six floors of a high-rise residential building in China to escape a fire.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, residents first spotted the woman stuck outside the establishment's 26th floor in the afternoon of April 1.
The woman reportedly locked herself out of her bedroom by accident. As seen in a viral video shared by Channel News Asia, which has garnered millions of views as of writing, she decided to use the air conditioning guard rails to exit her unit and try to keep herself safe from the fire.
She stopped at the 21st floor, 50 meters above ground, before responders came to her rescue.
Firefighters attached a safety rope to the elderly person and cut part of the rails to provide a platform for her to rest. She was also given some water and a jacket.
After 20 minutes, the rescuers made a bridge between the platform and the window before taking her out of the building on a stretcher.
Per the SCMP, the woman looked exhausted, and even "planned to climb all the way down to the first floor." Fortunately, she ended up with no injuries.
