Intramuros drops permit requirement for photos using professional camera
From its cobblestone streets to its centuries-old landmarks, Intramuros offers plenty of picture-perfect spots. Now, photographers can explore the area with their professional cameras without a permit, following a new initiative by the Intramuros Administration.
In an announcement, the Department of Tourism said that a new policy has been approved allowing the use of professional cameras for personal and souvenir photography without a permit.
The initiative aims to "make heritage photography more accessible and encourage photographers to share the stories of Intramuros through their lenses."
Nevertheless, photographers are urged to still observe site guidelines, such as restrictions on flash photography in some areas in order to protect historic structures and museum collections.
According to previous guidelines by the Intramuros Administration, taking photos of the sites and venues is free of charge as long as they are used for personal and souvenir purposes.
However, special-occasion shoots, such as prenup, pre-debut, and birthday sessions, as well as shoots involving equipment like reflectors, lighting gear, and backdrops, required permits.
The permits for commercial shoots allow for six hours of shooting at specified locations, while non-commercial ones allow up to four hours. The fees range from P1,200 to P36,000 depending on the type of shoot.
