TRENDING: The funniest memes about Alex Eala's historic WTA win
More than congratulations and heartfelt tributes, it looks like Alex Eala's win at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open championship also brought out a wave of memes and feel-good posts online.
In case you missed it, the Filipina tennis star emerged victorious in her match against Jessica Pegula at the Mubadala DC Open, making her the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA title.
Several celebrities and sports personalities have since celebrated Eala's latest milestone, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Manny Pacquiao, Rafael Nadal, and more.
But if there's one thing Filipinos know how to do, it's to celebrate a historic moment with plenty of humor.
One user joked about how some malls in the Philippines are named after great athletes.
"Muhammad Ali: Ali Mall, Alex Eala: One Eala," they posted.
It's safe to say that Eala has inspired many of her fans to give tennis a try, but it seems even their pets are getting in on the action.
In one hilarious video shared online, a cat was caught intently watching Eala's match on TV before lunging at the screen, seemingly trying to catch the ball itself.
"Geh, hulihin mo lagi si Alex. Nakakapunto siya tuwing ginagawa mo 'yan," the user captioned the video.
Just in time to celebrate her milestone, some fans also dug up Eala's old video where she hopped on the viral "sumakses" trend during her Miami Open campaign in 2025.
"Nakikita mo sa imagine mo, success ka eh, bigla kang sumakses eh, pero step by the step pala bago ka sumakses, pero 'yung na-imagine mo, bigla kang sumakses," she said in the clip.
But that's not the only video that resurfaced. Another user brought back an old clip of a young Eala playing a violin during a student recital back in 2009.
"Eala playing violin. 'Yung kamot talaga sa ulo parang sinasabing magte-tennis na lang talaga ako paglaki ko," they captioned the post.
Others also shared throwback moments when Eala was just starting. One user posted a news report by sports journalist Dyan Castillejo from when Eala and her older brother Miko competed in the Little Mo International Tennis Grand Slam Championship in Florida back in 2013. This was her first international junior success.
"Almost lost to time—a news report from 2013 about Miko and Alex Eala smashing the competition at the Little Mo in Florida. Also your reminder that Dyan Castillejo has been covering Alex's adventures from the very beginning!" the user wrote.
Apart from becoming a WTA champion, Eala's world ranking also jumped eight spots, landing her in the 20th rank with 500 points.
