“After investigators talked with him yesterday, it was discovered that Rudy returned home the following day on March 8, 2015,” Lieutenant Christopher Zamora said during a news conference.
Teenager reported missing 8 years ago has been living with mom all along
A man from Texas who was reported missing as a teen in 2015 had been located safely. But as it turns out, he wasn't actually missing.
After eight years, Houston police finally found Rudolph “Rudy” Farias IV after receiving a tip that a person was unresponsive on the ground in front of a southeast Houston church.
Rudy, now 25, was brought to the hospital and was interviewed by the authorities. They discovered that he had returned home the following day after he was reported missing. He came from a walk near their home along with his two dogs.
“The mother, Janie, continued to deceive police by remaining adamant that Rudy was still missing.”
Regardless, prosecutors won't charge Rudy and his mother Janie Santana, but the investigation will continue.
According to reports by ABC 13, neighbors said that they have spotted Rudy in the neighborhood in recent years.
"He used to come in my garage, chill with my cousin, son, and daughter," neighbor Kisha Ross claimed, per ABC 13. "That boy has never been missing."
A cousin of Kisha, Broderick Conley, also claimed that he and Rudy had spent time together and had “laughing good times.”
Another neighbor told ABC 13 that Rudy had been living at his mom’s home for years.
After police announced that they had found her son, Janie released a statement saying that Rudy is "receiving the care he needs to overcome his trauma, but at this time, he is non-verbal and not able to communicate with us."
Police Chief Troy Finner did not comment about the mental health of Rudy or his mother, and would not say what motivated their actions. He said that police are "right at the beginning" of their investigation into what happened. Police also said that they responded to a burglary call on Wednesday night at the family's home and that this is now part of their investigation.
Meanwhile, Rudy's aunt Pauline Sanchez said she saw her nephew for the first time in eight years. She revealed that her nephew no longer wants to be in contact with his mother.
She said: “I felt great presence. It was beautiful. We hugged until I finally let go. He’s a bit skinny.”
