LOOK: Man loses right eye to cancer, turns it into a flashlight

By Brooke Villanueva Published Nov 06, 2022 2:11 pm

After losing his right eye to cancer, a man decided to get creative and transform it into a flashlight.

Brian Stanley has been sharing some photos and videos of his own prosthetic eye on Instagram, where he also explains how it works. He describes it as “both comfortable and functional” because it’s enough to light up a dark room, but it also surprisingly “doesn’t get too hot.”

His project, which he calls the “Skull Lamp,” has 20 hours of functionality as a flashlight. Its power source and hardware made from titanium billet are “safely contained” within the artificial eye that also comes with an on-and-off switch.

As if that wasn’t interesting enough, he’s also able to change its design and colors from time to time.

Could its brightness overwhelm his other eye when it’s turned on? Not at all, the engineer said. His nose and brow line have been doing a great job shielding it from the light.

What do you think of this idea?
