Atlanta woman's house mistakenly demolished while on vacation
A woman from Atlanta who had a vacation went home, uhm… well not exactly. A property she owned was mistakenly demolished while she was away.
The Associated Press reported that Susan Hodgson found a pile of rubble in place of what used to be her longtime family property when she returned from vacation last month.
While she was away, Hodgson’s neighbor called her and asked if someone was hired to tear down the vacant house.
“I said ‘no’ and she said, ‘Well, there’s someone over here who just demolished the whole house and tore it all down,’” she recalled.
That was also the time when the said workers “got nasty” and tore the whole house down.
“He told her to shut up and mind her own business,” Hodgson said.
Hodgson’s relative checked their permit, and learned that they had the wrong address.
According to Hodgson, the property "had been boarded up about 15 years, and we [kept] it boarded, covered, grass cut, and the yard is clean." She also added that the taxes were paid and "everything is up on it."
While she's still trying to figure out her next step, Hodgson said she has already filed a report to the police and consulted with her lawyers, AP reported.
The company responsible for the demolition has yet to contact her.
“I am furious,” Hodgson told AP. “I keep waking up thinking, ‘Is this all a joke or something?’ I’m just in shock.”
