A man has been jailed for impersonating his dead mother just so he could steal his father’s life savings amounting to almost P4 million.

According to a local media report, Daniel Cuthbert from the UK drained his dad’s money from his bank account by calling his parents’ bank and pretending to be his dead mom on the phone.

In audio records released by the police, Cuthbert was found to have impersonated his late mother at least nine times as he answered security questions correctly during fund transfer requests.

Cuthbert’s dad began noticing some suspicious activity in his bank account after checking its transaction records. While he was initially convinced that his son was not involved in it, a company later on called to tell him about the possibility of losing his house due to outstanding payments. He learned that all along, it was his son who took various loans under his name in secret and did not pay a single centavo for it.

After a series of investigations, Cuthbert admitted to committing fraud by false representation.

He has been sentenced to two years in prison.
