Filipinos love donuts. It is a staple pasalubong for family and loved ones. That is why there are a lot of donut brands in the market that cater to the cravings of their customers. Now, another brand has entered the Philippines to satisfy people with a sweet tooth. But this one comes with a different premise and promise: Duck Donuts.

Seven months after signing the deal for the master franchise with Bravo Best Foods Corporation, Duck Donuts officially opened its first branch in the Philippines on June 24 in Makati City.

Picking the location of this branch was, of course, a strategic decision. Edilberto “Bert” Bravo, CEO of U-BIX Corporation and Bravo Best Foods Corporation, chose it due to its massive area, enabling the company to create enormous amounts of orders especially once they are tapped for catering events. Moreover, this is the biggest Duck Donut branch ever opened among 160 stores worldwide.

The shop looks lively; made more dynamic with various shades of pink and blue. Of course, living up to its name, ducks abound, catching the eye of customers.

The branch opening was a gastronomic experience as guests tasted various doughnut flavors that the food franchise offers. The event was also graced by the presence of Bert Bravo; Marcel Portmann, global development director of Duck Donuts; MaryKay L. Carlson, US ambassador to the Philippines; and Luis Campos Jr., second district representative of Makati City.

A different yet delightful donut experience

Duck Donuts has been a staple donut fix for Americans for almost 20 years. It takes pride in its made-to-order donuts, ensuring that customers receive their sweet fix warm and fresh.

While there may be concerns surrounding the possible waiting time customers may face as they order, Portmann guarantees that they will get their purchases timely, especially during busy times. They cook more donuts while catering to customers. He also assures that buyers will consistently receive fresh batches of donuts even as they consider the time when they assemble orders.

Portmann believes that another feature that sets Duck Donuts above the rest is that their donuts are customizable. People may choose and create flavors based on their preferences. Customers may select the coating, toppings, and drizzle they want for their donuts, completely personalizing their sweet experience. For those who seek comfort in predictability, however, they can also pick from the pre-made menu with favorite flavors, such as the classic chocolate with sprinkles, peanut butter and jelly, and more.

As a perfect partner to their donuts, customers may also have their daily caffeine fix in the shop, too. They currently offer six hot and four cold coffee choices. Duck Donuts also serves sundaes and milkshakes that can satisfy any sweet tooth.

Currently, Duck Donuts serves items that are available on the US menu. However, they also plan on evaluating for possible new flavors and treats that cater to the Filipino palate.

Grander pursuits

During his welcome remarks, Bert Bravo explained that more than the pursuit of money, he signed the deal to get the master franchise in hopes of employing more Filipinos.

“It’s important to make some money, otherwise how can you pay your fellow workers? But more importantly, we can provide some work to fellow employees and fellow workers in our businesses,” he shared.

As of now, the Philippines is the 12th country that houses Duck Donuts. Besides the flagship branch on Angono Street in Makati, another branch will soon open in Ayala Malls Circuit, also located in the same city. With the expertise of Bravo Best Foods Corporation in the industries of culinary, hospitality, and franchising, Duck Donuts aims to establish 25 locations throughout the Philippines by 2030.
