Fur parent turns dead pet dog into rug to keep him forever
A fur parent decided to turn their deceased golden retriever into a rug with the intention of having him in their lives forever.
In a recent Instagram post, Australian company Chimera Taxidermy gave a close look at the final output for the fur parent with the caption: “Beautiful old golden retriever preserved as a pelt for his family. Finally ready to head home.”
According to the business owner, the new home item “has been tanned and turned to leather so the fur won’t fall out.”
The process is called “pet taxidermy,” which is defined by the Collins Dictionary as “the craft of preparing the skins of dead animals and birds and filling them with a special material to make them look as if they are alive.”
“Pet taxidermy has only really become more popular in the last five years or so, so it’s a very new thing to see for most people. Some are more of a sentimental keepsake, others are on display resting in their beds or however their owners wanted them preserved,” the Chimera Taxidermy founder said in an interview with Yahoo News Australia.
She added, however, that the method is “definitely not for everyone” and that she “absolutely respects that.”
While it could be emotionally challenging to work with pets, the company owner noted that she finds a sense of fulfillment in it at the end of the day. “It’s more rewarding to be able to help people with their grief and allow them to keep a part of their pet forever,” she said.
