Gal Gadot, Rachel Zegler, and Andrew Burnap to star in Disney’s 'Snow White' live-action remake
The long wait is over! The first Disney animated feature film, Snow White, will be back with her seven dwarves in a live-action movie adaptation.
Directed by Marc Webb, who also directed the 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spiderman franchise, the remake will include a soundtrack penned by La La Land, Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen, and The Greatest Showman composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler was previously announced to play the titular role of a whimsical exiled princess, alongside Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot as the iconic Evil Queen, and Tony Award winner Andrew Burnap as the male lead. However, Burnap won't be playing the role of a prince or the Huntsman, but rather a new addition to the remake.
On why Zegler is perfect for the role, Webb once revealed in an interview with Deadline that not only does she have the vocal abilities to perform, but excellent qualities as well.
"Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale," he said.
Likewise, the future Evil Queen Gadot shared the same excitement in November 2021 in an interview with Variety.
“There is so much that I cannot share with you, but the take on this story is so different and delightful and full of joy. … I’m very, very excited. I wish I could share more,” she told the Variety.
The adaptation is said to be a “reimagination” of the classic Disney film which will incorporate music from the original film and will feature original soundtracks.
The filming of the remake is set to be this year in the spring of the UK, yet there is no word for the released date.
Meanwhile, Disney is also in process of remaking the classics The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey, Pinocchio with Tom Hanks, and Lilo and Stitch directed by Jon M. Chu
