Tom Holland struggles with PTSD, addiction in ‘Cherry’ film trailer
There’s a new movie from Hollywood A-lister Tom Holland and American ace directors Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo (a.k.a the Russo brothers) that’s gaining quite some attention these days. But it’s not a Marvel film.
Titled Cherry, the new movie is a crime drama based on a novel written by Army veteran Nico Walker. The movie is a true-to-life account of Walker’s life as an Army medic in Iraq, accomplishing more than 250 combat missions from 2005 to 2006. Upon his return to civilian life, he suffered from extreme undiagnosed PTSD, became depressed, traumatized, and addicted to heroin. To fund his habit, he robbed ten banks around Cleveland, Ohio in a span of four months, carting away over $40,000 before finally getting caught in 2011.
A full trailer was just released featuring Holland as a young Nico Walker. The story revolves around his haunting journey from a typical high-schooler to Army medic to a young man struggling with PTSD while sinking further into a life of crime and drug addiction.
Cherry is directed by the Russo bothers, with a script written by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg. The film stars Tom Holland (Cherry), Ciara Bravo (Emily), Jack Reynor (Pills & Coke), Michael Rispoli (Tommy), Jeff Wahlberg (Jimenez), Forrest Goodluck (James Lightfoot), Michael Gandolfini (Cousin Joe), Kyle Harvey (Roy), Pooch Hall (Sgt. Whomever), Damon Wayans Jr. (Drill Sgt. Masters), Thomas Lennon (Father Whomever/Dr. Whomever), Kelli Berglund (Madison Kowalski), Jose Pablo Cantillo (Drill Sgt. Deco), Nicole Forester (Doctor), Jamie Brewer (Shelly), Fionn O'Shea (Arnold) and Adam Long (Staff Sgt. Greene).
Cherry is scheduled for release in US theaters on Feb. 26, and on demand via Apple TV+ on Mar. 12. There’s no official word yet for a local release date.
