Betty White graced the cover of People Magazine to celebrate her 100th birthday, just before she passed away at 99
Betty White marked her 100th birthday in advance to grace the cover of People Magazine, which is now available on newsstands in the United States and other parts of the world. She, however, passed away at the age of 99—only a few days before her special day.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Betty White’s passing,” Editor-in-Chief Dan Wakeford said in a statement. “We are honored that she recently chose to work with PEOPLE to celebrate her extraordinary life and career.”
Apart from sharing her top tips for a long and happy life that included “tasting every moment” and “trying to avoid anything green,” she joked, White also expressed her gratitude for her good health and longevity. “I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age. It’s amazing,” she said in her December interview with Liz McNeil and Dory Jackson of PEOPLE.
The comedian was supposed to turn 100 years old on Jan. 17, but she, unfortunately, passed away on Friday, Dec. 31. The Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly that it “appears to be natural cause of death with no evidence of foul play.”
White became famous for her role on The Golden Girls as well as The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Hot in Cleveland. She stayed in the industry for over seven decades, earning prestigious honors like eight Emmy awards and a Grammy for her spoken-word piece dubbed “If You Ask Me,” among others.
