A pair of new animated series featuring two of DC’s greatest heroes are coming to HBO Max.

WarnerMedia confirmed on Thursday that HBO Max and Cartoon Network have green-lit a straight-to-series order for Batman: Caped Crusader, an all-new animated series that will reimagine the character of the Dark Knight. The upcoming DC cartoon series will be executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm.

“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City,” Timm, Abrams, and Reeves said in a joint statement. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”

Prior to the upcoming DC series, Timm also worked on the Emmy Award-winning show Batman: The Animated Series. The beloved cartoon show, which starred legendary voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, aired from 1992 to 1995, with a total of 85 episodes. The show is considered by many as the “gold standard of animated superhero storytelling” and “one of the best depictions of the Dark Knight in any medium.”

Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans. It is in that spirit that we are bringing together three master storytellers in J.J., Matt and Bruce—each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character—to create a new series that will continue in the same groundbreaking legacy,” Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios president Sam Register said.

Meanwhile, the production studio also confirmed that My Adventures with Superman has received a two-season order from HBO Max and Cartoon Network.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the new animated series will follow the lives of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and their best friend Jimmy Olsen as they begin to discover who they are and everything they can accomplish together as an investigative reporting team at the Daily Planet.

Described as a serialized coming-of-age story, My Adventures with Superman will follow Clark as he builds his secret Superman identity and embraces his role as the hero of Metropolis (and perhaps the world). The show will also see Clark and Lois fall in love, share adventures, take down bad guys, stumble over secrets, and discover what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane.

“This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois and Jimmy —whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friends,” Register said.

As for the cast of the new Superman animated series, WarnerMedia confirmed that Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will lend their voices as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively.

The studio company has yet to reveal the release date for the two upcoming DC cartoon series.
