A live-action adaptation film of Lilo & Stitch is reportedly slated to premiere this year.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the film is currently in its postproduction and is eyeing to hit theaters this year.

Mike Van Waes first wrote the screenplay which was later rewritten by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. The upcoming film is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp.

The live-action version is said to have the same storyline as the original 2002 movie, which revolves around the friendship of Lilo and Stitch.

The film will be starred by young actress Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena.

Joining them are 61st Street actor Courtney B. Vance, Billy Magnussen of Game Night, and The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis who will take roles of Jumba, Pleakley, and Cobra Bubbles, respectively.

The cast will also include actors from the animated film such as Stitch voice actor Chris Sanders, Nani’s voice actor Tia Carrere who will portray Mrs. Kekoa in the live-action iteration. Amy Hill, who was the voice of Mrs. Hasagawa, will take on another new character named Tūtū.

In the upcoming movie, the dog-like alien Stitch will be computer-generated, but actual actors will play his fellow creatures Jumba, Pleakley, and Cobra Bubbles.

The project was first reported to be in the works in 2018 but got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the months-long actors' strike. It officially finished filming in March of this year.
