A Pokémon live-action series is currently in the works at Netflix.

As reported by Variety, the live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise is in early development with Lucifer co-showrunner Joe Henderson attached to shepherd the project. As of now, details about the live-action Pokémon series remain scant including the show's cast, plot details and release date.

However, sources told Variety that the project is being eyed to be a live-action adaptation just like Warner Bros.' 2019 film Detective Pikachu, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith. The film, which featured CGI Pokémons, reportedly grossed $433 million worldwide.

Aside from the upcoming Pokémon live-action series, the streaming giant is also developing other anime adaptations including John Cho's Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. These projects are part of Netflix's ongoing effort to expand its library of anime titles.

Currently, there are a number of Pokémon series that are available on the streaming service, including Pokémon: Sun & Moon - Ultra Legends, Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, Pokémon Journeys, and Pokémon XY.

In terms of video games, The Pokémon Company recently released the free-to-play MOBA game Pokémon UNITE on Nintendo Switch. Additionally, a remastered version of classic Nintendo DS games Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl are also coming to Switch later this year while the much-awaited Pokémon Legends: Arceus is slated to hit store shelves early next year.
