The official trailer for The Legend of Vox Machina has arrived!

The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired adult animated fantasy-adventure series from voice actor troupe Critical Role and animation studio Titmouse is set to premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video on Jan. 28.

The adult series that combines aspects of anime and ’80s western animation is based on the characters and adventures of Critical Role’s first livestreamed D&D tabletop role-playing game (RPG) campaign, which originally ran from March 2015 to November 2017.

The series follows Vox Machina, a “band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling” who find themselves on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces, including a sinister necromancer and a powerful evil curse.

These unlikely heroes confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.

The Legend of Vox Machina project has been in development for over three years. Critical Role was originally formed by a group of friends who met as professional voiceover actors in Los Angeles and began playing D&D role-playing games together, originally just for their own amusement.

Following their record-breaking Kickstarter campaign in 2019, Amazon Studios ordered a total of 24 half-hour episodes split across two seasons for the animated Vox Machina series based on their first campaign.

The animated series stars Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Matthew Mercer (Overwatch), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers). Brandon Auman (Star Wars: Resistance) and Titmouse’s Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse) serve as executive producers alongside the eight CR founders.

Even if you aren’t a fan of Dungeons and Dragons or you’ve never watched Critical Role before, this upcoming series on Amazon looks like a great entry point to the high fantasy world of tabletop gaming, and definitely looks worth watching. Check out the official red-band trailer below.

According to Amazon, the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina will have 12 episodes, with three episodes premiering each week starting Friday, Jan. 28, 2022 on Prime Video worldwide.
