The revolution is coming! Hit musical Hamilton will be staged in the Philippines this September, creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda announced.
"I'm so excited to officially announce that Hamilton will be making its Asian premiere in the Philippines," Miranda said in a video announcement uploaded by GMG Productions on Tuesday, March 28.
The show will take place at the Theater in Solaire in Parañaque.
Miranda said they have a lot of Filipino company members, endearingly calling them as part of the Hamilton "pamilya."
"Tara. Mwah! Mahal kita," he told the "Hamilfans."
“Hamilton’s fans from the Philippines have been telling us for years how much they want to see the show, many of them have traveled to see it all over the world," said Hamilton's international tour producer Michael Cassel in a statement. "It is a thrill to, finally, be able to bring it to them."
GMG Productions Chief Executive Office Carlos Condal acknowledged how "passionate" the Hamilfans are, saying they will "not disappoint."
A day before, Miranda teased Filipinos with a video showing off his Tagalog speaking skills.
Tickets will be on sale on TicketWorld, GMG Productions said. While ticket prices have yet to be revealed, Miranda urged everybody to sign up for the waitlist for pre-sale access.
Premiering in 2015, Hamilton tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through song and rap.
It won 16 nominations and 11 awards, including best musical at the Tony Awards, considered the highest accolade in the musical industry. It also won the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for drama.
Hamilton made its southern hemisphere premiere in Australia in March 2021, touring in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. It's set to kick off its international tour this May, starting in Auckland in New Zealand.
GMG Productions, which has headquarters in Manila and caters to the Asia Pacific region, is behind Cats, Matilda the Musical, The Lion King, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and The Sound of Music.
