DC Comics cancels Suicide Squad, Teen Titans and more amid massive layoffs

By Kara Santos Published Aug 17, 2020 12:00 am

DC Comics has officially cancelled a number of titles including Suicide Squad, Young Justice, Teen Titans, and more. DC Publisher Jim Lee confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the company will be reducing the number of comic books following massive layoffs.

The cancellations will start to take effect in October and November, as Batgirl, Batman and The Outsiders, and Justice League Odyssey ends in October.

Titles like Teen Titans, Young Justice, Suicide Squad, Hawkman, and John Constantine: Hellblazer, with The Batman’s Grave and the Metal Men limited series are all ending in November.

According to DC’s November 2020 Solicitations, the titles were marked with a “Final Issue” designator.

The fate of Aquaman seemed in jeopardy, as the solicitation for Aquaman #65 calls it a “finale” and writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, who took over Aquaman in 2018, confirmed her departure from the title. However, the double-sized issue does not bear a “Final Issue” stamp.

While some news outlets claimed the King of the Seas was getting the ax, DC clarified that Aquaman would be ending a major story arc that was planned in advance, and that the comic will not be canceled. The cover by Robson Rocha and Daniel Henriques features the Atlantean power couple Arthur and Mera kissing.

The synopsis teases an issue filled with “villains, heroes, machinations, and long-held grudges” with a finale guest-starring the Justice League.

Aquaman #65 is set to hit store shelves in November.
