Cobra Kai Season 3 Release pushing through despite pandemic

Cobra Kai Seasons 1 and 2 are coming to Netflix on August 28th, and hopefully we won't have to wait long before we get Season 3.

Cobra Kai, set 34 years after the original Karate Kid films, reignites the rivalry between a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and a now-successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).

In an interview with CBR, series creator Josh Herald confirmed that their team was wrapping up post-production on Season 3 when pandemic restrictions hit full-swing.

“Thankfully with Season 3, we wrapped production before the end of 2019 and we wrapped post-production… I think there was a little bit of overlap. We were still doing some finishing touches for the effects and some quality checks on Season 3 while the quarantine aspect of the pandemic was just beginning but we finished our final mix — the last big piece of post-production — that was done in-person with raising champagne and eating cupcakes and all the things you do to feel like you’re at your absolute unhealthiest coming out of the completion of a season. So, there were no major delays in terms of COVID.”

The Karate Kid sequel series was a smash hit when it was launched on YouTube Red from 2018 to 2019, with the first season holding a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series manages to balance a unique blend of humor, pleasantly corny nostalgia, and teen angst with martial arts action sequences.

The series instantly hooked viewers who grew up watching the Karate Kid films in the late 1980s and engaged a whole new generataion of fans with the introduction of younger characters Miguel, Robby and Samantha, who play Daniel and Johnny's successors.

With its upcoming release on Netflix, the creators want to let a larger audience experience the fun of Seasons 1 and 2 first before rushing to get Season 3 out.

While no official release date has been set, the all-new third season is still expected to premiere exclusively on Netflix some time in 2020. With Season 2's epic fight scene and cliffhanger, fans who've followed this timeless saga are raring to see where the story goes.
