VIRAL: This college student was about to be late for class—until he saw his professor on the same train

Just when you thought you were going to have a bad day, arriving late in class, the universe decides to give you a humorous plot twist: getting to your class late, but along with your very own professor.

Just before the Holy Week break, Rex Jacobe Imperial, a first-year Civil Engineering student from the Technological Institute of the Philippines,  found himself rushing to school for his 12 p.m. class.

According to Imperial, that day was extra important as he was one of the assigned reporters in his Art Appreciation class and so, he really needed to get to school on time.

“There was a class report that day and I was one of the assigned reporters for that class, the professor gave me the projector from the faculty room which I had to set up,” he told PhilSTAR L!fe.

Since he resides in Antipolo City, Rex must allot 40 to 50 minutes for his travel to his school in Quezon City. However, he left home late that Thursday, March 23, since he had to take care of his other responsibilities being a working student

“I'm actually a working student and I had to take care of some work responsibilities since I work from home,” he said.

Rex went on, recalling the nerve-racking day and how he hurried to catch his 12 p.m. class.

“I went inside the LRT 2 station at Masinag and was in a hurry to board the train because I would've been late for sure if I had missed it since it was already 11:34, and my class starts at 12 p.m.,” he recounted..

Fortunately, Rex was able to ride the train. Tired from all the running, he was surprised to see that his professor Dr. Reid Allen Ugsang—whose class he needs to catch up on—is also on the same train.

“Pag pasok ko ng LRT, pagod pa ako nun tapos paglingon ko nakita ko 'yung mismong prof ko sa klase ko na male-late ako," he told The Philippine STAR. “Nagulat din [siya] at tinanong kung taga-saan ba ako.”

Rex clarified that there is no specific rule about being late in his class, but shared that his university has a strict policy about being late.

“None, you just get marked as absent. But our school has a policy that you could get dropped from a subject if you incurred 20% of total class time worth of absents,” he told L!fe.

Rex also shared how his professor found the situation funny and allowed him to take a photo to share with his friends. “He's actually very chill and relatively polite. He's the kind of person you'd have a hard time imagining getting angry,” he said.

After rushing through the LRT station plus chacning upon his professor in a funny encounter, Rex victorously entered the classrom first before Ugsang. The student said his professor had to report to the faculty room before going to their class.

Rex's hilarous and relatable encounter with his profeers has since gone viral, earning over 75, 000 laugh reactions and 16,000 shares as of writing.
