Lorde grabs her crystals and sage for new 'satirical' single 'Mood Ring'

New Zealand artist Lorde isn't one to shy away from tackling personal topics through her songs, but her latest song Mood Ring may feel like the most personal of all for everyone.

The latest single from her comeback album Solar Power sees the 24-year-old speaking about reaching enlightenment through crystals, burning sage, and waiting for when the wind blows just right.

Armed with her blonde wig and posse of women, the music video introduces viewers to a Lorde alter-ego that relishes in pseudo-spirituality as the singer croons I can't feel a thing / I keep looking at my mood ring / Tell me how I'm feeling.

Lorde shared that had a deep dive in 60s culture to prepare for Solar Power, which led her on the spirituality tangent: "One thing that occurred to me as a major parallel between that time and our time is our wellness culture and our culture of spirituality, pseudo-spirituality, wellness, pseudo-wellness," she said in a newsletter to fans.

"Things like eating a macro-biotic vegan diet or burning sage, keeping crystals, reading tarot cards or your horoscope. These were all things that they were dabbling in back then, and that me and my girlfriends are dabbling in today."

"I was like “I think there’s a pop song in here/ So this is kind of my extremely satirical look at all of those vibes."

Meanwhile, Solar Power the album will drop on August 20.
