Experience sharp cuts and craft cocktails at Modern Fox Ortigas
A trendy new barbershop is shaking things up. Modern Fox Barber and Lounge has opened its latest branch in Ortigas on Saturday, Feb. 28, positioning itself as a hybrid lifestyle hangout "representing the modern gentleman."
The concept, which marries a barber shop, a cocktail bar, and a relaxing lounge, first debuted in Bonifacio Global City in February 2024. Founder Ton Villanueva shared that the family business initially started as a personal passion project.
“When we put up this idea, supposedly this was just a hobby,” he said. “I like good grooming. I like good cocktails. I like good haircuts… and surprisingly, the concept worked.”
He added that the concept was inspired by his expatriate experience in Vietnam, where long hours of work would wear him down.
"At the end of the day, I would look for a place where I can settle down, mellow down, find a place to unwind, get a good haircut, get a good massage, and then afterwards get a drink," he said.
From there, he saw an opportunity to bring over that unique experience to the Philippines when he opened the first Modern Fox branch.
While a premier barber shop is not an entirely new concept, Villanueva distinguishes a uniqueness in his venture from others. “They’re in the business of selling haircuts. We’re in the business of selling experience," he said.
An all-in-one luxury space
Going inside the Ortigas outlet, you get a feel for a sleek English pub, with its long bar filled with a towering liquor cabinet and long stools, perfect for unwinding drinkers. Dark interiors, warm lighting, and plush seating give a relaxing vibe, encouraging guests to stay a little longer than they should.
“In this place, we are able to set up a community and a place where families can gather and talk,” Villanueva said, noting that fathers, sons, and working professionals often book appointments, turning grooming sessions into bonding time.
For hair care, they offer haircuts ranging from P600 to P1,000 for both men and women, which includes shampoo and blow-dry. Their premium Modern Fox Signature Cut includes a shave, massage, and hot towel service.
Other grooming services include hair color and hair repair treatments at P1,500 to P4,000, and hand and foot care from P350 to P1,000.
For professionals needing to stay productive, the branch also offers a rentable conference room for meetings and events.
For drinkers, a new menu was launched along with the branch's opening: The Archipelago Cocktail Collection, featuring ingredients and concepts rooted in different provinces. Notable drinks include the bartender's choice Queen's Harbor, a cocktail with cacao and pandan; Fox of the Waves, a blended malt drink with mango and ginger; Fire and Silk with siling labuyo and coconut, among others.
Other drinks include coffee, classic and specialty cocktails, and non-alcoholic drinks.
They also have Regular Foxy Fridays, held from 9 p.m. to midnight with complimentary drinks for ladies from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
