Former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist LaToya Malcolm passes away at 35

A former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist has died at age 35. 

In an Instagram post on Saturday, July 18, the organization announced the demise of LaToya Malcolm, who competed in the 2024 iteration of the pageant. Her cause of death was undisclosed. 

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition,” Miss Universe Jamaica captioned. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones.

"Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten,” its statement concluded. 

Miss Jamaica 2026 Gabrielle Henry has since expressed her sympathies to Malcolm.

"After many years of experiencing loss and hardship, I’ve learnt the deep relevance of pausing and reflecting on the lives of those who lived fully, unapologetically and with great passion," she wrote in an Instagram post.

"To hear of Laloya’s passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community, Jamaica, her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten. Wishing her family my deepest condolences. May she rest in peace," she concluded. 

Malcolm was a Jamaican-based actor and entertainer. After Miss Universe Jamaica, she joined Miss Jamaica Bikini International in 2024 and earned the title. She was also known for her Transition project, which offered adolescents training and resources to prepare them for new opportunities.

Her last TV appearance was in early July on the morning show Smile Jamaica.
