Filipinas are Southeast Asia's top Gemini users: Google
The Philippines is the leading user of artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia, based on the latest data from Google.
According to Google’s Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026 released on Tuesday, the Philippines is the only country in the region where women use the AI assistant more frequently than men.
Prompts by Filipinos are mostly customer support-related activities—namely, customer inquiries, orders, and complaints, and producing marketing content—which is three times greater than the regional average. The study attributes this to the country being a premier hub for Business Process Outsourcing.
The study added that Filipinos use the AI model mainly for creativity purposes (24%) and writing activities (17%).
Moreover, the study noted that 90% of prompts from the Philippines are in English, the highest in the region, as opposed to its regional neighbors who use native languages with a regional average of almost 70%. Countries include Vietnam at 89%, followed by Thailand (87%) and Indonesia (84%).
The study also revealed that Filipinos mainly use Gemini through phones (71%) and computers (25%), followed by other devices.
Gemini has since gained 900 million monthly users as of April, with a doubled user base in Southeast Asia over the past 12 months, according to the report.
The inaugural Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026 analyzed users across the region in terms of how they interact with and utilize the Gemini App model across the web and mobile devices.
The report defines the Gemini App as "a personal, proactive, powerful AI assistant that can intelligently handle text, audio, images, video, and more. It contains Large Language Models like Nano Banana for image generation, Omni for multimodel content generation, and Lyria for music generation.
