A recent survey found that vaping, smoking, and alcohol use are widely seen as “undesirable” in a romantic partner for Filipinos.

In the latest Philippine Public Opinion Monitor survey conducted by WR Numero, a total of 1,455 Filipinos were asked how comfortable they are with their significant other or a potential partner consuming alcohol, vape, and tobacco products.

Around 75% of them answered that vaping is "unacceptable for a partner," while only 15% said that they are open to it. About 10% remain undecided or are unfamiliar with vaping products.

Among all age groups, Gen X stood out as the most opposed, with 78% saying they disapprove of vaping. They are followed by Baby Boomers (76%), Millennials (75%), Gen Zs (73%) and the Silent Generation (69%).

Around 21% of Gen Zs meanwhile tolerate the act.

When it comes to smoking, around 78% of Filipinos said that they would not be okay with their partner using tobacco products, while 16% consider it acceptable while 6% are unsure.

This time, Baby Boomers emerged as the most opposed group, with 86% saying they would not accept smoking in a romantic partner. This was followed by Gen Zs (83%), Millennials (75%), Gen X (74%) and the Silent Generation (50%).

Notably, 20% of Gen X are open to their partners smoking.

For alcohol use, nearly 2 in 3 Filipinos are turned off if their romantic partner drinks alcohol. On the other hand, 26% find it acceptable, while 8% have no clear opinion on the matter.

Baby Boomers are once again the most opposed group against alcohol use at 72%, followed by Gen Zs (65%), Millennials (65%), Gen X (64%) and Silent Generation (52%).

Gen Zs and Millennials are tied in expressing openness to their partners consuming alcohol at 28%.

The survey was conducted from March 10 to 17 through face-to-face interviews with Filipinos nationwide.
