The Light Rail Manila Corporation has launched an investigation into an incident involving a TikTok user who allegedly faked a mobility impairment to use the priority lane.

The video showed a man who appeared to be limping lining up at the LRT-1 ticket booth priority lane, which is designated for senior citizens, PWDs, pregnant women, and those traveling with children.

After purchasing a single journey ticket, the man limped toward his friend who was recording the video. "Ang galing oh, ang galing umarte," the companion was heard saying behind the camera. "Pilay ka pa rin?"

After surpassing the turnstile, the man said that he could now walk straight. "Diretso na lakad ko, boy."

The TikTok account of the original poster is no longer available as of writing.

"LMRC is currently reviewing this case and investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. We take such matters seriously, as these actions undermine the systems put in place to ensure a seamless travel experience for those who truly need it," the LRT-1 operator said in a statement on March 9.

The company also reminded the public that the priority lane is "not a shortcut," but an important service for the individuals who require it.

LRMC also called on commuters to refrain from performing such acts "for the sake of 'content' or personal convenience."

"Having a disability is not a joke, and it should never be used as a punchline or a life hack," it continued.

"We call on all commuters to show respect and empathy toward our priority passengers to maintain a culture of courtesy within our stations."
