From Miss Universe to Project Runway!
R'Bonney Gabriel is bringing her design skills to Project Runway season 22—and we are seated! The former beauty queen announced that she is officially a contestant on the Project Runway season 22, which was promised to be "the biggest season ever."
"From 16 years of sewing, and sooo many hours of watching Project Runway, I thought it was time to enter the workroom. Design has been my passion since I was young, and it’s a dream come true to join this season," she announced on Instagram.
Joining here this season are Joseph McRae, Aaron Potts, Andrea Moore, Andriy Volkov, Anna Molinari, Bao Tranchi, Bi Pham, Bryan Barrientos, Chloe Magleby, Dani Bennett, Elizabeth Shevelev, Jeffrey Kelly Abess, Jennifer Daniels, Jude Mikulencak, Omolara “LRÉ the Artist” Odupita, Naheim Muhammad, Octavius Terry, Plane Jane, Robert Crone, Varvara “Bobby” Diakonenkova, and Yang Yang Xu.
Longtime host Heidi Klum is back at the helm, alongside Christian Siriano as mentor. Meanwhile, Nina Garcia and Law Roach will serve as jusdges.
In February, Gabriel posted that she has been busy in her studio all month to keep continue growing her brand, R'Bonney Nola Design.
"Being back in the States has been grounding and refreshing. I LOVED my time in the Philippines but coming home to Houston has allowed me to reset. It made me want to pour everything I have into my craft. I’ve spent my time here attending exhibits, perfecting my sewing, studying fashion media, and exploring new construction techniques," the Fil-Am designer wrote at that time.
"FOCUS is my mindset this year. Working on multiple projects is my dream but learning how to juggle them all successfully is TRICKY. I started the year off with a lot of unknowns and waiting on confirmations. As someone who loves to plan every step, I’m just trusting God and trusting that Im doing the right things. Moving forward no matter the circumstance is alway key," she ended.
Gabriel won the 2022 Miss Universe crown. Aside from pageantry, she studied fashion with a minor in fibers at the University of North Texas. She has her own label, R'Bonney Nola, which uses sustainable materials to make eco-friendly clothing
The show premieres on July 9 on Freeform, Hulu, and Disney+.
