LIST: Essential workshops and talks you can't miss this Buwan ng Wika
Learning doesn’t have to stop outside the classroom, and it isn’t limited to what we do for work. From our language and literature to traditional art forms and creative practices, there are plenty of ways to pick up something new while gaining a deeper appreciation for Filipino culture.
And what better way to observe Buwan ng Wika than by learning more about our own language and culture?
Here are some workshops and talks you can check out this August.
Aug. 22: Introduction to Screen Printing
If you’ve been curious about how designs end up on handprinted textiles, this screen printing workshop is a chance to learn the process yourself.
“Introduction to Screen Printing” will be led by Sheina and Andrei of Hocus Screen Prints & Design, known for their locally designed, handprinted textiles. The three-hour session will cover artwork and screen preparation, photo emulsion and screen exposure, inks, hands-on printing, and screen cleaning and maintenance.
Participants will get to expose screens to create photographic stencils and print their own designs on fabric. All materials are provided, and each participant will go home with a screen, squeegee, ink, and screen-printed work.
The workshop will be held in person at Craft MNL studio in Aranaiz ave., Makati on August 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The session fee is P3,500 per person; register via this link.
Aug. 24: Pag Gunamgunam sa Intra: Pagninilay sa Ating Wika, Kasaysayan, at Pinagmulan
For literature lovers, “Pag Gunamgunam sa Intra: Pagninilay sa Ating Wika, Kasaysayan, at Pinagmulan” offers a closer look at how language, history, and poetry connect with our identity and origins.
Joselito delos Reyes will discuss “Ang Wikang Pambansa sa Panahon ng Emojitopia,” while Edbert Casten will talk about “Pinagmulan, Katutuhanan, at Panulaan.”
The face-to-face session will be held on Aug. 24, at Centro De Intramuros, starting at 9 a.m. Admission is free, just don't forget to register via this link.
Aug. 24 to 29: NCD Online Masterclass Series
Prospective participants of the Sayaw Pinoy National Dance Competition 2026 can now enhance their preparation through the NCD Online Masterclass Series. Organized by the National Committee on Dance of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the series is designed to help prospective participants prepare for the competition.
The dance masterclass series will be held via Zoom and will cover four genres: folk, contemporary, ballroom, and street dance. Each session will discuss the competition’s updated guidelines and mechanics, along with practical tips, techniques, and insights for the selected genre.
The masterclass you choose should match the genre your contingent will enter in the Sayaw Pinoy National Dance Competition 2026.

Aug. 29: Jeepney Typography Workshop
Learn how those distinct, iconic jeepney aesthetic fonts are crafted by visiting Cafe Haraya in Valenzuela this Aug. 29.
They will be holding a Kape at Sining workshop, which will explore the lettering styles, techniques, and cultural influences behind the signs seen on Filipino jeepneys, featuring artist Edwin Tayao. Participants can learn how these designs are created and their place in Filipino visual culture.
The Kape at Sining Workshop will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at Cafe Haraya, Arbortowne Plaza, 1 Karuhatan Rd, Valenzuela, Metro Manila.

Aug. 30: Baybayin, Tuklasin workshop with Howie Severino
Deepen your understanding of our ancient Baybayin script with guidance from award-winning journalist Howie Severino.
“Baybayin, Tuklasin” will take place on Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. at Comuna in Makati. The session costs P1,500 per participant, and it will give them a chance to look at the history and basics of Baybayin and learn more about the script.

Aug. 30: Dagli: Para sa Panahong Nagmamadali by Eros Atalia
Try your hand at flash fiction in “Dagli: Para sa Panahong Nagmamadali,” a writing workshop led by award-winning fictionist and professor Eros Atalia.
The workshop, which will take place on Aug. 30, will cover the history and fundamentals of dagli, how it differs from flash fiction, and how to write one. Participants will also get to write and workshop their own dagli with Atalia.
The workshop will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Comuna in Makati.
