'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' to have Filipino Sign Language-interpreted Manila show
An upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory show in Manila will be accompanied by Filipino Sign Language interpretation.
In a press release sent to PhilSTAR L!fe, the production announced that it collaborated with deaf consultants and interpreters from the Benilde Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf and the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies – Interpreting Education Program for the special performance that will be held on July 22.
A dedicated orchestra seating section has been reserved for deaf audience members and their companions to give a better view of both the stage and the live FSL interpreters.
To avail of the seats, patrons can use the promo code ACCESSSEATS, which also provides a 20% discount. Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing customers may also use their valid PWD ID to avail of the standard PWD discount at physical TicketWorld outlets.
"Live theater should be an experience everyone can enjoy," said Marc Routh, CEO of Broadway Asia. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a story about imagination, possibility, and wonder, and we're excited to help make that experience more inclusive for members of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community."
Presented by Broadway International Group, Broadway Asia Group, AMA Group of Companies, in association with GMG Productions, Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a highly anticipated Broadway production set to run in Manila from July 8 to 26 at The Theatre at Solaire.
Based on Roald Dahl's globally beloved novel of the same name, the story follows young Charlie Bucket's golden-ticket adventure into the mysterious world of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, where chocolate rivers, nut-sorting squirrels, mischievous Oompa-Loompas, dazzling theatrical effects, and larger-than-life characters come to life alongside beloved songs from the classic 1971 film—including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man, and I've Got a Golden Ticket.
In its Manila run, Karylle will play the role of Mrs. Bucket. Joining her in the Bucket family are Oliver T. Wong and Cohen Toukatly alternating as Charlie, Steve McCoy as Grandpa Joe, Mychal Phillips as Grandma Josephine, and Michael Dalke as Grandpa George.
Tickets are available through the TicketWorld website.
