Popular squishy bun toys recalled in US over dangerous water beads inside
Over 15,000 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun toys have been recalled in the US after the water beads inside the toys were found to pose a potentially deadly ingestion hazard to children.
In its announcement, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall covers about 7,200 toys distributed nationwide from May through August 2026. The toys were imported by OKK Trading Inc. and manufactured in China.
The recalled toys are translucent pink squishy buns containing glitter and water beads. They have cartoon faces and come in a tan plastic container shaped like a bamboo steamer, with “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION” printed on the removable packaging.
The affected toys are identified as Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, Model D08004. There are no markings on the toy itself aside from its cartoon face.
According to the CPSC, the toys violate the mandatory safety standard for toys because the water beads inside the dumplings can expand beyond permitted limits.
"If a water bead is ingested, it can pose ingestion, choking, and intestinal obstruction hazards inside a child’s body, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and a risk of death to a child," the CPSC said.
No injuries or incidents related to the recalled toys have been reported.
Consumers who got squishy toys from the batch are advised to stop using them immediately and to contact OKK Trading via recall@okktoys.com for a full refund. "Consumers will be asked to write 'RECALLED' in permanent marker on the squeezy dumpling and its tan plastic container, throw the toy away, and email a photo of the disposed toy," per the CPSC.
