The National Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into a pet crematorium over alleged irregularities in its services after the remains of 29 animals were found dumped in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan.

Per ONE News, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said he has directed the bureau's Environmental Crimes Division, along with its regional offices in CALABARZON and Central Luzon, to investigate the incident.

In a statement, Matibag condemned the alleged mishandling of the animals, saying pet owners had placed their trust in the facility and paid for their companions to receive a proper cremation.

"Hindi katanggap-tanggap na ang tiwalang binigay, kasama ang perang pinaghirapan, ng bawat pet owner ay sinuklian ng panloloko. Sa halip na maayos na cremation ay tinapon na parang basura," he said.

The NBI said its investigation will include looking into possible estafa charges against those involved. Investigators will also examine the facility's permits and equipment, as well as review CCTV footage and records concerning the handling of the animal remains.

Pet owners were urged to submit receipts, cremation certificates, and other relevant documents to the NBI headquarters to support the investigation.

On Oct. 30, animal rescue service Luna and Furry Siblings raised alarm over a discovery of dumped pet remains in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium, based in Bacoor City, Cavite, was later linked to the incident.

The crematorium has since been shut down. Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla said that he had met with the establishment's owner, Jonathan Legaspi, who admitted that the company brought pets to Caloocan, where it has one cremation machine. However, the mayor noted that there's a lack of evidence showing that the cremations actually took place.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society has also urged victims to take legal action.
