New fear unlocked.

A woman recalled a “very scary situation” in her bathroom, where she was bit by a snake in her leg when she sat on the toilet.

Speaking with local outlet NBC affiliate KXAN, Maria Jaimes from Texas, US detailed that she woke up early one Sunday and went to the bathroom with the lights off. When she sat on the toilet, a rat snake underneath the seat immediately bit her.

“The rat snake bit me in my leg when I sat on it,” she said. “Very scary situation on a Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m. with lights off.”

“I felt a little poke on my leg and I said, 'Something happened, my husband left something on the toilet.' So I then turn on the light and I see that there's a snake under my toilet," she told the outlet.

Jaimes, though startled, proceeded to take pictures of the snake as proof of the incident. “As scared as I was when this happened, I am the one who took these pictures because no one would believe it!” she said.

Despite the scary incident, Jaimes still continued on with her day and went to church.

"I got up and went to church,” she told the outlet, smiling.

Jaimes asked her husband to put a chicken wire on the vent on her roof, believing it was where the snake was able to enter her bathroom.

According to the nonprofit organization National Wildlife Federation, rat snakes are non-venomous snakes that can be identified for its shiny black scales on its back and light-colored belly. It usually preys on rats or small birds.

Alan Brown, the technical director at ABC Home and Commercial Services, said that snakes emerging from a toilet is an "infrequent occurrence."

"In 25 years of pest control, I have never dealt directly with it or had anybody that I know of deal with it," Brown told the outlet. "I think its more of an urban legend most of the time but it does happen."
