Beauty queen-model Skarlent Rodriguez found dead at 23 after Venezuela quakes
Beauty queen and model Skarlent Rodriguez was found dead after the powerful earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 25 (Philippine time). She was 23.
The Miss Grand International organization confirmed the death of the Miss Grand Orlando 2025 titleholder on its Instagram page on Wednesday, July 1.
"With profound sorrow, we mourn the tragic passing of Skarlent Rodríguez, Miss Grand Orlando 2025, following the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela," it said.
"We extend our deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all those affected by this heartbreaking disaster," MGI continued. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Venezuela during this difficult time. May they find strength, comfort, and unity as they navigate the days ahead."
"May she rest in eternal peace," it added.
As reported by Venezuelan news outlet La Patilla, Rodriguez's family confirmed that she and her boyfriend Jose Castro died in the quakes. They got stuck beneath the rubble of their collapsed apartment building in the Catia La Mar region in La Guaira state, one of the hardest hit places by the tragedy. They were discovered after several days of intense search and rescue operations in the area.
Rodriguez and Castro's families set up a GoFundMe page to cover their funeral expenses.
"Sadly, they were both found dead... side by side, together until the very end," their joint statement read. "There are no words to describe the pain we are living, but we do want to express our deepest gratitude for all the love, support, and effort so many people gave."
Rodriguez was crowned Miss Grand Orlando in 2025 before pursuing a career in modeling.
The Miss Grand Florida organization honored her memory on social media. "She will be remembered not only for her beauty and accomplishments but also for the way she uplifted others and carried herself with dignity and light," their Instagram post read. "Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her fellow queens, judges, directors, and all members of the Miss Grand Florida family."
