While the cobblestone streets of Intramuros have always been one of Manila's most popular destinations, they’re about to offer something more than just a scenic walk through history. The Film Development Council of the Philippines is preparing to reopen the Cinematheque Centre Manila, bringing a state-of-the-art cinematic experience to the Walled City.

In a promotional video, the national film agency shared a glimpse of the interior of the new cinema, showing red-and-black cushioned seats, Dolby Atmos speakers, and a large projection screen.

"A new home for cinema in Metro Manila, where stories come alive on the big screen within the historic walls of Intramuros. Coming soon!" the FDCP captioned the post.

While the FDCP has not confirmed an opening date and location, they hope to welcome audiences as early as March later this year.

The original Cinematheque Centre Manila was previously located along T.M. Kalaw Street in Ermita. However, the FDCP announced last year that they had temporarily closed the movie house as they are preparing to move to a new location.

Cinematheque Centres are exclusively operated by the FDCP, serving as alternative theaters that showcase more diverse content offerings to the regions, including independent, classic, and world cinema.

It also partners with the Development Support Division to hold regular film education workshops on directing, scriptwriting, editing, cinematography, and other aspects of filmmaking.

Aside from the upcoming Intramuros branch, other centers are located in Iloilo, Davao, Zamboanga, Nabunturan, and Balocod.
