A Japanese father was arrested in connection with the death of his 2-year-old child after being stuck in a washing machine.

Japan News reported that Yamaguchi Yuki, 31, was living with his son, Yamaguchi Aoai, when the latter fell headfirst into the 90-centimeter cylinder of a washing machine that was set to be disposed. The incident took place while Aoai's mom was at work.

According to Japanese police, the father was aware of his son's situation for 20 minutes but didn't bother to help him. Yamaguchi only sought help when he found out the boy was no longer breathing.

Emergency responders rushed the kid to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead due to suffocation as he was stuck in a cramped position for a long period of time.

Authorities noted there are no records of child abuse in the family.
