Brazilian footballer Jorginho says Chappell Roan incident was just a 'misunderstanding'
Professional footballer Jorginho Frello said that the controversy involving his stepdaughter Ada, singer Chappell Roan, and a security guard at a hotel in Brazil was just a "misunderstanding."
In an Instagram Story, Frello shared details about the incident almost a month after attending Lollapalooza.
"I want to update you all on what happened during the Lolla weekend. Over the past few weeks, a lot has been said, and now that new information has come to light, I felt it was important to set the record straight," he began.
He admitted that his initial statement was premature and that he acted "in the heat of the moment."
"After learning that my daughter and my wife had been approached in an intimidating manner by a security guard, I reacted the way any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did," he said. "At the time, we acted based on the information we had available to us in that moment. Since then, I have become aware of new information that has shifted my understanding of certain aspects of the incident."
"It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight," he continued.
In March, Frello made headlines after claiming that his 11-year-old stepdaughter was mistreated by Roan's team at a hotel they were staying at ahead of the music festival.
According to him, Ada simply passed by Roan’s table and smiled before returning to her own. He said that moments later, a security guard he believed was working for the singer confronted their family, accusing the child of “disrespect” and “harassment.” The guard also allegedly threatened to file a complaint with the hotel, leaving the child frightened and in tears.
Roan reacted to the claims on her Instagram stories, stressing that she "did not see a woman and a child" and did not ask security to "go up and talk" to the family. She has since apologized to the mother and child involved.
The security guard has also apologized about what happened in an Instagram post, saying he was not part of the artist's personal security team.
