After a decade away from the stage, Morissette Amon is stepping back into theater with a major role in the Philippine staging of The Notebook: The Musical. set to open this September at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.
"Asia's Phoenix" will play Middle Allie in the upcoming play, which opens this September at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater.
“I had already been thinking about going back to theater,” Morissette said about the play, adding that she has long been drawn to the emotional depth of the story.
Theatre Group Asia artistic director Clint Ramos said that casting Middle Allie was not easy.
"[It's] a tough process because the character's songs are as technically challenging as they are emotionally demanding. It takes a special kind of vocalist and actress to tackle this role. And we're overjoyed Morissette welcomed the prospect. She's spectacular!" he said.
Based on the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook: The Musical follows the enduring love story of Noah and Allie. The book was also adapted into the iconic 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
"I loved the film adaptation, and the songs from the musical are so beautiful and moving," Morissette said, adding that she connects with Middle Alie's free spirit and strong will.
"I tend to take risks in my professional and personal life, and I fight for what I believe in. When I started studying [the material], it hit a little close to home. I really believe that to love and to be loved is so empowering—it gives you the courage to take risks.
The musical features music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter.
