Free e-jeep rides, anyone?

The Department of Tourism, Department of Transportation, and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Wednesday signed an agreement formalizing the initiative offering free e-jeepney rides this November.

This campaign aims to build awareness for the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit and Related Summits, taking place in Manila this month.

Commuters can avail of free rides from Nov. 5 to 14, from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Just look for one of the 15 modern jeepneys with the ASEAN logo for a free ride.

The North Route will run from SM Fairview to Buendia with four daily round trips, while the South Route will run from Sucat to Baclaran with five daily round trips.

The Philippines is set to host the 49th ASEAN Summit from Nov. 16 to 18, with preparations expected to affect traffic, road access, and air travel in Metro Manila. It will take place at various venues across Metro Manila, primarily at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

To help ease traffic congestion and allow authorities to ensure the safety and security of summit participants, Malacañang has declared Nov. 16 to 18 as special non-working days throughout the National Capital Region.
