Tom Cruise is returning for another Top Gun sequel!
Film company Paramount Pictures made the announcement in its presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 16, according to Deadline.
Cruise will reprise his role as Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the upcoming film that will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The sequel was first said to be in the works in 2024, with writer Ehren Kruger working on the script. He co-wrote the first sequel with Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie.
Cruise returned as the hotshot pilot Maverick in 2022's Top Gun: Maverick, 36 years after starring in the lead role in 1986's Top Gun.
Per IMDb, Top Gun: Maverick follows Maverick's return to the Navy's Top Gun school 30 years later to train a select group of young graduates for a near-impossible, specialized mission.
According to Variety, the film was a blockbuster hit amid the COVID-19 pandemic, grossing $1.5 billion, or more than P90 billion.
