Abby Choi’s remains found in disinfectant-smelling flat, court hears
The dismembered remains of Hong Kong model and socialite Abby Choi were found in a rented flat that smelled strongly of disinfectant, a police detective testified in court as the murder trial over her 2023 killing continued.
According to a report by the South China Morning Post on Tuesday, Oct. 27, police told the court that they discovered human remains and items believed to have been used to dispose of the victim’s dismembered body inside a 600-square-foot rental flat in Lung Mei village, Tai Po, on Feb. 24, 2023.
Police cordoned off the property that evening, three days after Choi was reported missing.
The discovery formed part of the investigation into the death of the 28-year-old model, whose case drew international attention.
Choi’s former husband, Alex Kwong; former brother-in-law, Anthony Kwong; and former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, are standing trial over her killing. All three are facing murder charges, while charges related to preventing the lawful burial of a body have also been brought in connection with the case.
Prosecutors have alleged that the defendants acted together in the killing and disposal of Choi’s remains. The defendants have denied the murder charges.
The trial has also heard testimony about items recovered from the property, including tools and containers that prosecutors believe were used in the disposal of the remains. Forensic evidence presented earlier in the proceedings reportedly linked marks on Choi’s remains to a saw recovered by police.
Choi became known for her modeling work, fashion appearances and social media presence. She had two kids with Kwong and two younger children with her second husband.
The trial is ongoing.
