Airfare to get cheaper as fuel surcharge drops this July
Got plans to travel soon? You may want to hold off on booking that flight until July 16.
The Civil Aeronautics Board announced on July 13 that it is lowering the fuel surcharge to Level 8 from July 16 to 31. This is one stage lower than the previous Level 9 from July 1 to 15.
At Level 8, the surcharge is capped at P787 for local flights and P6,208.98 for foreign trips.
CAB said airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the rest of July must file their application with the office or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level.
The applicable conversion rate for July 16 to 31 is P61.43 for 1 USD.
This adjustment follows continued relief for travelers. In mid-April, surcharges peaked at Level 19 amid tensions in the Middle East. Travelers had to pay as much as P1,834 in extra charges for domestic flights and up to P15,397.15 for international routes during the period.
If you're looking for deals for your next trip, Philippine Airlines is offering up to 50% off flights from July 15 to 17.
