From active noise cancellation to longer battery life: Here are the features of the new AirPods 5
Apple is bringing active noise cancellation to more people with its new AirPods 5.
Unveiled alongside the company's latest products on Sept. 10 (Philippine time), the new audio gear keeps the familiar open-ear fit while introducing a redesigned acoustic architecture, improved sound, and active noise cancellation.
The tech giant also highlighted deeper integration with Apple Intelligence, longer battery life, and a second model with wireless charging and stem-based volume controls.
The new AirPods 5 feature a redesigned multi-port acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ, which can deliver "richer and more detailed sound" across a wider range of ear shapes. Personalized Spatial Audio also gets an upgrade, making music and other content feel more immersive.
The biggest change is that there won't be a non-ANC version anymore. Apple said that the AirPods 5 promise 50% more noise reduction than the previous generation, giving them what the company calls the industry's "best ANC in an open-ear design."
The earbuds also get the other features already in the AirPods Pro, like Transparency mode and Adaptive Audio.
AirPods 5 will also work with Apple's newer AI features. When paired with an iPhone, users can access Siri AI hands-free, including asking questions based on personal context and getting help with tasks across apps.
Live Translation is also supported, allowing wearers to hear translated conversations through the AirPods while staying engaged with the person they're talking to.
Battery life can reach up to four hours with ANC, while the charging case provides up to 20 hours of listening time.
For those who want a few extra features, Apple is also offering a second AirPods 5 model, which adds volume controls on the stem to allow users to swipe up or down to adjust the volume—a feature also found in AirPods Pro.
This version also gets longer battery life, with up to five hours of listening with ANC, as well as a wireless charging case compatible with Apple Watch and Qi chargers.
The standard AirPods 5 with ANC is priced at P9,490, while the model with wireless charging, longer battery life, and stem-based volume controls starts at P10,990.
Both models are available for pre-order starting today and will be available on Sept. 18.
As of writing, Apple has yet to give pre-order details for the Philippines.
