Free MRT, LRT rides to be offered on June 12

Heads up, commuters! In celebration of the 127th Independence Day this Friday, June 12, you can enjoy free train rides on LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.

The "Libreng Sakay" initiative will be available during peak hours, specifically from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If you are planning to take the LRT-1, take note that the line will be operating on a holiday schedule on Friday.

The first trains are scheduled to leave both the Dr. Santos and Fernando Poe Jr. stations at 5 a.m., while the final trains of the day will depart from both terminals at 9:45 p.m.

The Light Rail Manila Corporation said that passengers may use their beep cards by tapping them at the gates with no fare deducted from their load.

For passengers who will use Single Journey Tickets, they may proceed to the teller booths and claim their free tickets.

"Inaanyayahan ang lahat na samantalahin ang libreng sakay na ito at makiisa sa paggunita sa mahalagang yugto ng ating kasaysayan," LRT-2 wrote on Facebook. "Nawa’y magsilbi itong paalala ng ating pagkakaisa, pagmamahal sa bayan, at pagpapahalaga sa kalayaang tinatamasa natin ngayon."
