Airfares for flights booked from April 16-30 to hike by up to P15,400
Flights booked between April 16 and 30 may increase by up to P15,397.15, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board.
Passenger and cargo fuel surcharges reached a new high of Level 19, from the previous Level 8.
Under this level, the fuel surcharge ranges from P627 to P1,834 for domestic flights and P2,070.77 to P15,397.15 for international flights.
While under Level 8, rates reached P253 to P787 for domestic routes and P835.06 to P6,208.90 for international trips.
Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file their application with the CAB on or before the effectivity period.
In a previous advisory, CAB said that it is implementing a 15-day period for fuel surcharge adjustments instead of one month to "mitigate the impact of the fuel price surge on air travel costs."
"This interim measure shall be in effect until the current situation stabilizes, or as may be revised or revoked accordingly," the agency said in its new advisory.
AirAsia Philippines addressed the interim fuel surcharge in a statement.
"While rising fuel costs continue to impact airline business models built on affordable fares, we continue to find ways to keep travel as accessible as possible without compromising the safety and reliabiliy of our flights," it said.
On April 18, Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said in a news forum that the cost of jet fuel doubled amid the Middle East conflict.
"Dati, pre-war ang bili ng airlines companies ay $80 (P4,800) to $90 (P5,400) per barrel. Ngayon po pumapalo na sa $200 (P12,000) per barrel.
